Top 5 Favourite Cocktails

Hey Guys,

This weeks post is gonna be on my top 5 favourite cocktails (as the post title suggests).Personally I love a cocktail whether they’re virgin or the regular alcoholic kind. There’s something I find sophisticated about sipping a cocktail, it makes me feel like one of the Sex and the City girls! It was quite hard to whittle down the finalists but here they are:

1. Bramble

This is my all time favourite cocktail. The bramble is a delicious mix of gin, blackcurrant liqueur, lemon juice & sugar syrup, served over ice in a short glass. Apparently this was created in 1985 as an alternative to the Cosmopolitan (a drink in which I am surprisingly not fond of). For those of you who don’t like gin, don’t let that stop you trying this drink! I am not a big fan of gin but the blackberry liqueur balances out the bitterness of the gin and gives a lovely fruity flavour to this cocktail. The only downside to this drink is that it is served over crushed ice (to keep it cold, don’t complain!) and in a short glass, so I tend to find it goes quicker compared to sipping a Martini.

2. June Bug

I recently discovered this one at the cocktail making course I did on my birthday (check out the post here). A mixture of pineapple juice, Malibu, midori (melon liqueur), banana liqueur & lime juice is shaken together and served with ice in a tall glass. This fruity cocktail is amazingly easy drinking and if the thought of banana liqueur scares you off, (like it originally did me) then don’t worry because when its made right it’s barely noticeable. If you want to know how to make one yourself check out my post with a step by step guide here!

3. Pornstar Martini Passion fruit & Vanilla Martini

Now this is a cocktail I’ve always liked the sound of but have always put off trying because of its name. Pornstar Martini? Erm no thank you. However I recently went into my local bar and saw a ‘Passion fruit & Vanilla Martini’ on the menu, which I immediately ordered & loved! It wasn’t till the waitress was bringing over my second (not an alcoholic honest) and asked who’s the Pornstar Martini was, that I realised they were the same thing. It just goes to show you should never judge a book by its cover, or a cocktail by its name. This Martini is very high up on my lists of favourites and may even be joint with the June Bug. It’s a mix of passion fruit liqueur, vanilla flavoured vodka, lime juice & vanilla sugar syrup. The result is a super fruity, sweet, tangy cocktail which if made right isn’t overwhelmed by the vanilla (which can make it sickly).

Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

4. Frozen Strawberry Daquiri

If you don’t like/know any fancy cocktails this is the drink for you. The frozen daiquiri (and its unfrozen brother) come in a wide range of fruity variations but strawberry is by far my favourite. This is cocktail is usually on most menus and is my go to choice if nothing else floats my boat. When its made well it should be a nice smooth frozen consistency, with a strawberry flavour. Its made with rum, strawberries, sugar syrup & lime juice blended together and served in a Martini glass (depending on where you are). A classic, easy drinking cocktail. Perfect for summer!

5.French Martini

This is a newcomer to my list. I tried this one last month when I was out with friends and immediately liked it. Now I don’t know about you but when I see the word Martini, I automatically assume its going to be full of alcohol & very strong like the classic version. This drink however is nothing like that, It’s made with just blackberry liqueur, pineapple juice & vodka. The taste is quite similar to the Pornstar Martini with it’s fruity flavour, although not quite as sweet & tangy! Still a great cocktail none the less.

Have you tried any of these? Which one is your favourite?

Leave me a comment and let me know 🙂
