Where? What? When? #1

Hello,

So this weeks post is gonna be a take on my classic Orange Wednesday post that I used to do. However I’ve renamed it and decided to have a mix up of the layout! I’ll be covering where I went, what I wore & when, as well as my thoughts on what I’ve done.

Where & When?

Last Wednesday I headed off to the cinema as part of our custom weekly ritual. This time I went to go see A Million Ways To Die In The West which I was super excited for after watching Ted! Keep reading to find out what I thought of it…

What?

Maxi dress – similar here,  Black & gold necklace – £7.40 Forever 21,
Skull flip flops – Primark (similar here), Sheer bomber jacket – £55 Next

As the weather was supposed to be a warm 23°c with abundant sunshine but instead was a very cloudy 22°c, I decided to opt for a summer staple – the maxi dress. This one was a present brought back from my parents recent holiday and a replacement of one my other maxi dresses that had become misshapen. Unlike my previous Topshop version this maxi has a much simpler design with no side splits and a cute racer back. I love this version as its so lightweight & comfortable and the colour is really gorgeous. You can’t really tell from the photos as the sun kind of bleaches it out but the dress is a very pale pink colour with a subtle metallic sheen to it, which really brought out my tan! The only problem I had with this dress is that it was slightly too low at the front and sides, meaning my bra kept peeking out but nothing that wasn’t fixed by taking the straps up slightly.

20140611-162356-59036169.jpg

I teamed my maxi with my black skull flip flops (a summer favourite of mine) and this statement necklace I picked up on a recent shopping trip. As I was going to the cinema, which tend to be quite cool inside, I decided to bring my sheer black bomber from Next just in case. I can’t describe how much I adore this jacket! It’s become my go to jacket for a night out, as the sheer sleeves & back still show off my outfit while keeping me looking smart. The good weather last week made me feel super summery and inspired me to paint my talons with this fruity design. I got loads of compliments on strawberry nails and they’ve certainly kept me cheery when the weather wasn’t! As for my makeup, I’ve got a total girl crush on Kylie Jenner recently and decided to try & copy her flawless look. The eye makeup was surprisingly easy to do and looks super flattering in real life (the picture doesn’t do it justice), however no matter how much mascara I applied I just could not recreate those luscious lashes of hers. Falsie are definitely needed for us mortals!

Well let’s start off by saying it’s definitely not as laugh out loud funny as Ted but that doesn’t mean it’s not good. I went in with high expectations for this film (always a bad idea) and I wasn’t too disappointed. It wasn’t as hilariously amazing as I would have hoped but it certainly has it’s moments! If you go in with slightly lower expectations than mine, then I think most people will really enjoy it, it’s pretty easy watching and it is funny. There’s a story there too which helps, something that there isn’t always in your regular comedies. All I will say is ‘people die at the fair’. Also is it wrong I find Seth MacFarlane kinda cute?

What do you think? How do you wear your maxi dresses?

Guess Who’s Back

Hi Guys,

OK so I’ve been bad, it’s been awhile I know. As I said when I first started this blog, I’m rubbish at maintaining them! Like with most things I do (such as especially exercise) I start off well but as soon as I get distracted and miss a post/workout, that’s it it’s over. So over the Christmas holidays when I was working every possible hour, my blogging kind of fell behind… Though what my excuse for the months after is I’m not quite sure.

Anyway I’m back and so that I don’t fall behind again I’m going to make a few adjustments to how & what I blog. First off I will be sticking to one post per week (unless of course I just can’t contain myself and have to add in a sneaky update). Secondly the regular Orange Wednesday film review will no longer be a regular. This is mainly because the lovely Orange have got into the habit of not sending me a code until way after I would possibly need it. Whether I text at 5am, 12pm or 4pm (or often all three) my ticket just won’t come through till the very last-minute! They’re just so helpful like that. Aside from this I shall be continuing to update you with blog posts on my life, outfit, films, nails and the odd tutorial from time to time.

Stay tuned for my Summer buys post that’s coming soon! Meanwhile here’s a sneak peek of what’s to come…

What did I think?
Hmmm not quite sure what to say about this one. It was alright. Actually that’s a bit harsh, it was good! It just wasn’t great. As always Tom Hanks was pretty amazing in it but I think this is not one of his films that you can just keep rewatching. As far as the real story goes I didn’t actually know too much about what went on. I remember seeing bits and pieces about it on the news but as far as how true the film is to the story I wouldn’t be able to tell you. That aside it was a good film.

Would I recommend?
To watch? Yes. To see in the cinema? Not really. You could probably just wait till it comes on TV/DVD.

What I Wore
20131023-182952.jpg

It wasn’t too cold today so I decided to brave the weather in just a jeans, a top and coat. I chose to wear my plain black peplum top and its super comfy and its quite cute for just a plain top. I paired this with my jeans & boots to keep it casual and decided to dress it up with accessories. Now I chose this yellow necklace today because I love the way it stands out against my black top. I wore an outfit similar to this in Chicago and everyone complimented me on my necklace, so thought I’d recreate it. I ordered the necklace ages from E-Bay for a bargain £3 (!), after being inspired by a post on yellow by fellow blogger Shades of Lovely and am so glad I did. It’s the perfect pop of colour! To finish it off I went with my contrast mac, as its definitely not warm enough to go without a coat or jacket anymore (sadly). This coat was another one of my bargain finds, after I was searching high & low for an affordable mac that was a little bit different. I ended up stumbling onto this one in the most unlikely of places – Asda and for the amazing price of £20!20131023-183011.jpg

I kept my hair down (as per usual). I did contemplate a top knot but the thought of having chilly ears persuaded me not to. As for my makeup I chose to go back to my winged eyeliner as I was missing it (its been a while), choosing to create a thinner longer wing this time to make my eyes more cat like. As its starting to get colder I can see myself starting to slip into the rut of wearing jeans all the time which I usually try and fight off for as long as possible! I will try to wear something more exciting and no jeany next time I promise.

What did I think?
Right it was a good film, I was loving it until the end. I’m not gonna ruin it for you and tell you what happens but I will tell you it has one of those endings where it leaves you with questions. As soon as the credits came up my reaction was ‘you can’t end it like that!’. That aside I really enjoyed it, well as much as you can for such a bleak story! I found it quite chilling and the story had me on the edge of seat at times. The shots reminded me of something out of a horror film, I was constantly scared something was gonna jump out, which helped to heighten the suspense in scenes. It was a little slow at times but it’s not the sort of story that needs a fast pace.

Would I recommend?
Yes I would, It’s a good film! Definitely not one for everyone, there was even times I felt a bit uncomfortable (Changeling horrified me). But if you like a good thriller and a mystery then you might like this. Just providing child abduction & torture don’t put you off too much…

What I Wore

As the weather is particularly miserable here in the UK I went for something warm for todays outfit. This consisted of my black skinny jeans and my old favourite red jumper. I love the colour of this jumper its such a bright red colour and I had totally forgot about it, until I fished it out with the rest of my winter jumpers in the back of my cupboard. Now I was super tempted to wear my red pumps I bought from Next before my holiday (see post here) but it did decide to rain for the majority of today, so I thought it wise to steer clear of exposed sides & the potential for wet feet instead opting for my black wedge boots.20131016-170903.jpg

Not that I need an excuse but I thought I’d jazz up the boring jumper jean combo with my beautiful statement that I also purchased from Next recently. This necklace is so sparkly, I just couldn’t resist wearing it! It’s definitely one of my favourite buys of this year, especially seeing as I just bought it as a replacement for the necklace I originally had my eye on. To top it all off I added my checked cape for an extra layer of warmth. I love capes for this time of the year, I find them not so great for actual winter time as it can get a bit breezy up the sides but I don’t mind this time of year as it tends to be not quite as cold.20131016-171643.jpg

Hair and make up wise I went for natural. As my necklace is a bit OTT (not gonna stop me wearing it though) I chose to keep my make up really paired down and left the winged eyeliner at home *gasp*. Crazy I know, but I went for more of a light liner, with the focus being on eyelashes instead. I kept my hair down as usual, I thought an updo would lead to cold ears and no one wants that. My nails are what I’ve had on for awhile (as you can tell from the chipping in the picture) but I thought I would show you anyway. I quite like this whole style of having a feature nail and think the silver glitter works nicely here against the white.

Guess Who’s Back Old Sport

Hi y’all!

Just kidding I don’t say y’all. I’ve just got back from the USA (literally today) and am trying to fight off the jet lag while typing this. I had an amazing time and saw/did/ate loads of cool thing, so much so that I completely forgot to post. Sorry about that guys! In my defense I did try to upload a quick update post but my iPhone was having none of it, so that was the end of that. To make up for it I have a few posts planned, including possibly another nail tutorial & a 5 things I love about my country tag that the lovely Eleonora from Ellyinmakeupland tagged me in. Today’s post will be the usual film review, this time being on one of the films I watched on my trip home to England. I won’t be adding the usual OOTD part to the end of the post though, as I’m currently wearing an over-sized Iron Man t shirt and pajama bottoms plus I shall be uploading a post featuring some of my outfits from my time in Chicago. If you don’t already follow me on Instagram check out a few of my snaps I uploaded during my visit here or search @corranjc .

What did I think?

Having never actually read The Great Gatsby, I can’t tell you how true/untrue it is to the original story. That aside, not knowing the plot, I very much enjoyed the film. The music was not quite what you’d expect for a film set in that era but even that didn’t bother me too much and kind of added to my enjoyment being able to recognise some of the songs. The glitz and glamour of the film drew me in enough to distract me from my turbulent flight and the tragic tale of Gatsby left me a little sad. I loved Leonardo’s portrayal of his character and his almost obsessive love of Daisy was touching to watch. Overall I think the film was really good. I enjoyed it all from the story to the characters to the decadent scenes and can see now why there was/is a new trend of Great Gatsby style luxury.

Would I recommend?

Yes I would (I’m starting to feel like I always say that). Considering the fact that I wanted to see it ages ago when I first saw the trailer I wasn’t disappointed! If you love a bit of glamour then this is the film for you! Let yourself get drawn in by the costumes and the parties and enjoy!

Have you seen The Great Gatsby? Did it make you wish you were in the Roaring Twenties too?

Emotional Blackmail

Hi Guys,

So today’s film that I was supposed to be seeing and reviewing for you was going to be Rush but I have been emotionally blackmailed by my parents into babysitting. This means no perving on Chris Hemsworth (Damn 😦 ) and that I shall instead be staying in and watching a DVD. Now I was going to watch Silver Linings Playbook which I hadn’t actually seen and heard good things about, but my boyfriend hasn’t seen Looper and I’m up for anything with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in (Love him, so adorable!). So that’s that! This week shall be a re-view review of Looper as well as my usual outfit of the day, though as I’m staying in will probably be nothing exciting.

Also as of next Wednesday I am flying off to the windy city of Chicago! You cannot believe how excited I am and how hard I’m struggling not to pack every outfit I think of. Now this sadly means that there will be no film review posts for the next two Wednesdays but I promise to keep you updated on my trip, outfits & general experience, as well as a big update when i’m back 🙂 !

What did I think?

Although it’s not the easiest film to get your head round, trust me I remember trying (and failing) to explain to my parents what was going on, once you get the hang of it its a really good film! Ok so its not a film you can just put on and fall asleep to, it does require a bit of attention, but if your up for it give it a go.  Bits of the film can be pretty grim, particularly one scene near the beginning of the film (if you’ve already seen it I’m pretty sure you’ll know), so it may not be for everyone. I’d say its a bit like Inception in a way, if you liked and understood that, then this might be worth checking out. As much as I absolutely love Joseph Gordon-Levitt the makeup they put on him to make him look like a young Bruce Willis can be a little distracting (he looks weird!). Anyway lets just say there’s a reason everyone gave it five stars when it came out and on my second viewing I still enjoyed it as much as the first.

Would I recommend?

Yes I would, like I said probably not everyone’s cup of tea and for those of you who want to dreamily watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt (like me), then maybe watch 500 Days of Summer instead because he’s not that sweet & he looks a bit odd at times. That aside if you haven’t seen it and enjoy these kind of films definitely give it a watch!

What I Wore

20130919-103815.jpg

As I was convinced to babysit, instead of making my usual Wednesday trip to the cinema, I kept today’s outfit simple and most importantly comfortable. I chose to stick on a pair of black leggings as they’re much comfier to lounge around in than my usual jeans or shorts & tights and I plan to consume my weight in sweets & chocolate, so restrictive clothing was not an option. I then went for my loose basic vest top, which (and this is important) covers my bum! If there’s one thing that really bugs me when it comes to other peoples outfits, is when a girl wears leggings like they are trousers, this is made especially worse if they are:

a). Baggy
b). See-through
OR
c). Both of the above

Not a good look ladies come on, cover up your bum! I don’t want to be able to see what underwear you’ve got on underneath – no matter how good you arse is! Anyway rant aside, I also chose this over-sized Aztec print cardigan which I love because its so snugly & comfy, perfect for cuddling up on the sofa. I felt that I was missing a bit of sparkle, so I added this simple black pendant necklace that I had recently received from a friends as a belated birthday gift. Hair wise I went for a top knot so it wasn’t in my way and just some simple makeup seeing as I wasn’t going anywhere, no winged liner today! Instead I just lined my lash line and applied a heap of mascara.

Black Leggings: Next
Wine Basic Vest Top: H&M
Over-Sized Aztec Cardigan: New Look
Black Pendant Necklace: Accessorize

So what do you think? What’s your off-duty look? Any recommendations for places to visit in Chicago?

Taken from IMDb.com

What did I think?

Wow, what a lovely film! It’s the perfect blend of cute, funny and sentimental. I really liked it, ok so it’s no Notebook but its not far off and its not really supposed to be. I’d say perhaps a slightly more ‘life sentimental’ than a ‘lovey sentimental’ compared to The Notebook . I won’t go too much into what I loved, as I don’t want to spoil of you who want to/plan to see it. However I will say that this is a film that will make you laugh, maybe even cry and definitely make you smile. Also who doesn’t love Rachel McAdams? She’s just so darn cute!

Would I recommend?
Yeah I would, it may not be everyone’s cuppa tea (surprisingly my boyfriend actually quite enjoyed it) but it’s a very cute and just a lovely film!

What I Wore

Ok so for today’s outfit I decided to go for something quite girly and cute seeing as I was going to see a rom-com. I chose to wear a jumper as the weather is getting quite chilly here the UK (sadly), so I picked out this which had suitably fitting heart patches on the elbows.

20130911-165324.jpg

As tempted as I was to slip into the safe option of jeans, I refused and decided to pair it with my black skater skirt, tights & little wedge boots. I also found a cute little cameo necklace while cleaning my room, which I decided to chuck on as well. As always I went for my usual straight hair and winged eyeliner look, hair & makeup wise. Overall I really enjoyed wearing this outfit, I was not too cold (although I did bring a jacket as well) and felt very girly in my skirt. My boyfriend as complimented me several times on the look which is always a plus!
